The university has computer facilities across the campus, however for study beyond the campus a laptop may prove useful. Students will devise, negotiate, plan and disseminate a substantial piece of research and develop outcomes in relation to innovation, ideas and concepts. Supported by mentors, students will research and develop an original idea and transform this philosophy into a project or entrepreneurial venture. Students explore commercial and philosophical concepts and formulate a relevant plan.

Biomedical Science Bsc Hons

The Part-time Work Placement module requires students to work in partnership with host organisations in the private or public sectors with an interest in educating students for the demands of the complex world of work. Students undertake a skills audit before being accepted on to the scheme and will only be considered for this module if they have an attendance record in year two of at least 80%. The outcomes from this, and the availability of appropriate placement and academic supervisors, will determine whether students can proceed with this module. Students will be involved in the tracking of employability skills and in personal development planning.

This self-directed approach extends to a focused use of manufacturing technologies and/or traditional construction techniques to enable mastery. This may be applied to aspirational but commercial industry/live briefs with emphasis on range building to a defined consumer in line with a personal design philosophy. This module explores markets and market economics, encouraging discussion of how individual consumers, industrial firms, governments, and other networks and organisations affect consumer culture and shape market dynamics.

Advanced Software Engineering Msc

This postgraduate course enables you to develop the specialist skills and knowledge to start a marketing career within the events, hospitality and tourism sectors. You will work with real clients on marketing projects as well as having the option of a six-month placement. This future-focused module enables emerging fashion graduates to identify opportunities in current and evolving markets to support their future career ambitions.

The range of perspectives in project management studies are analysed both in theory and in practice. The application of theories is enhanced through the use of case study examples in the public, private and third sectors, encompassing an analysis of project management in a range of organisational structures. Emphasis on knowledge in this area is extended further to the criticality of the project manager’s skills in managing the range of both internal and external stakeholders. As such, this module will draw and build on student’s knowledge previously acquired through responsible leadership, entrepreneurial, finance and people management modules. You will then learn to apply these techniques to areas of the fashion industry such as branding, advertising, fashion media, marketing, visual merchandising, events, public relations, retail environments and colour and trend forecasting.

This unit is an opportunity to initiate a self-directed body of work that responds to a personal design philosophy aimed at defined market levels within a contemporary Menswear specialism. This unit is a flexible space where collaborative interactions can take place with diverse professional, community and educational stakeholders and/or peers. Students will undertake an individual project in response to a negotiated research question that maps onto their own practice and critical, cultural, contextual and/or industrial contexts. UK Part-Time fees are calculated on a pro rata basis of the full-time fee for a 120 credit course.

However, the most important requirement is a proven enthusiasm for and knowledge of fashion. This is why almost all fashion courses, apart from the business-focused degrees, ask you to submit a portfolio of your work and attend an interview to discuss this portfolio. Studying an art and design subject is often essential, especially for the creative degrees such as fashion design, and is the easiest way to build up a portfolio of work.

If you are committed to breaking into the fashion industry, it will give you the best possible chance do so. Those with a non-fashion degree will find it difficult to compete with fashion graduates and will therefore need to study a postgraduate fashion degree. It is possible to get onto a fashion degree straight after studying A levels, Scottish Highers, a BTEC extended diploma or another suitable level three qualification. You will focus on the development of textiles for use in the fashion industry through print, knit, embroidery and embellishment and through the use of both traditional craft techniques and contemporary digital processes. You will develop your knowledge of fabrics, colour and silhouette, engage in textile sampling and prototype testing in 2D and 3D and explore areas such as fashion awareness, trend forecasting, illustration, pattern cutting and garment construction.

If you’ve studied fashion design or fashion textiles, you could become a design and technology teacher at a secondary school or college if you are willing to commit to further study to train as a teacher.

This module equips non-accounting students with the basic financial skills they will need to progress through their management-related degree studies. Students will learn the fundamental processes behind the production of historic financial information, allowing them to conduct analysis of financial statements. Additionally, students will develop knowledge of cost behaviours and forecasting, allowing them to make decisions such as how to price their product. The module allows students to bring together their financial skills by preparing extracts from a business plan as part of an application for finance. Emphasis will be placed on practical skills relevant to entrepreneurs and small business owners. You will study the management of brands, finances, events and people across the fashion chain, from design and development, to manufacturing and the supply chain, to sales and marketing.

The fee for a single credit is £77.08 and a 15 credit module is £1,156. Part-time students can take up to a maximum 90 credits per year, so the maximum fee in a given year will be the government permitted maximum fee of £6,935. Remember, you don't have to pay any of this upfront if you are able to get a tuition fee loan from the UK Government to cover the full cost of your fees each year. This is a great investment you are making in your future, so make sure you know what is on offer to support you. Progression from one level of the programme to the next is subject to meeting the University’sacademic regulations. The module provides students with the opportunity to work collaboratively with others when undertaking research, and also to reflect on their own style of working and personal values, when working in teams.

Students will investigate the current volatility in the marketplace, and the need for agile supply chains where supplier and customer teams explore opportunities for realigning processes. They will research the importance of adopting the triple bottom line, i.e. planet, people and profit, to ensure the long-term success of the business and future well-being of society in line with the UN’s SDG 12. This module aims to provide a foundation for students to develop their understanding of marketing research methods for academic and professional purposes. Students will explore a number of areas of marketing research including; the use of both primary and secondary data; an introduction to quantitative and qualitative research; and creating research samples. In addition, students will develop an appreciation of ethical implications of the research process to facilitate responsible research practice. The module provides an introduction to the market research industry and relates research skills learned in the module to real-life application in business.
